October 29, 2013: The FNQLEDC organized in Quebec a conference luncheon under the theme of the forestry industry. The first lecture was delivered by Mr. Luc Bouthillier (Université Laval) on the theme of « Pour profiter de l’occasion d‘un nouveau régime forestier (An Opportunity to take advantage of the new Forest Regime) ». The conference was a forum for Mr. Bouthillier to give an overview of the forestry industry in Quebec and he explained that, although it underwent a serious crisis, there is still a future ahead for this sector, but it will need to reinvent itself. He also presented the broad lines of the new forest regime and gave examples of forest activities which could create opportunities for aboriginal businesses and communities. The second conference was held under the theme of « La filière bois des Premières Nations du Québec : moteur d’une nouvelle économie verte (Quebec First Nations’ forestry industry cluster: an engine for a new green economy ». The speaker, Mr. Hervé Deschênes (FPInnovations), defined the varying uses that can be made of the wood fibre. For example, he explained that beyond the production of pulp and paper, the fibre may be used to produce energy, chemical products, fabrics and packaging products.
