Our CEDOs Participate in a Project Management Training

In Quebec City, from February 25th to February 27th, 2020, our team of advisors facilitated a training session on the specific topic of Project Management and Networking.  Despite last minute cancellations due to bad weather conditions, some fifteen Community Economic Development Officers (CEDOs) were still able to attend this training.

Participants were able to deepen the concepts seen in practical workshops.

As part of their duties, CEDOs are all called upon to manage projects.  It may range in nature and in scope, but generally, they can all be managed by using the same steps. In order to effectively prepare the CEDOs for this challenge, the team of the FNQLEDC created a custom-designed training content to meet their needs.

The content, which was a mixture of theory and hands-on workshops, was presented in a dynamic form by our advisors, Frédérick Martel, Myriam Vallières and Steve Laveau. The participants had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with each phase of development of a project, with the different roles of the project manager, and on how to break down a project into tasks, etc. During the hands-on workshops, they were able to apply the concepts learned from a fictitious project, namely the organization of an economic development event. They also had the opportunity to discover and experience a software for project planning and management, Trello, which is available online.

Developing CEDOs’ Networking Skills

It’s very important to have a good contact network in the business community, but not everybody can master the art of networking.  In the second part of the training session, we introduced the CEDOs to networking and to its importance, and we shared a few tools to develop a business network and tips on how to prepare for a networking event.  At the end of the day, they were able to apply those tips in the context of a networking event which allowed them to get to know one another better.

Keep informed of our upcoming training sessions and events through the events and training section of our Website.
