COVID-19: Launch of an App to Help First Nations

On April 3 2020, the First Nations of Quebec and Labrador Economic Development Commission (FNQLEDC) is launching an app that will enable business owners whose operations are affected by the COVID-19 crisis to quickly and easily identify the assistance programs offered by the governments and financial institutions. The app also lists all the programs targeted at First Nations in general. Its content is regularly updated and it is available in French and in English.

“Indigenous businesses face considerable challenges because of the COVID-19. The FNQLEDC wanted to put in place an easy and user-friendly tool, that would help entrepreneurs access information which can help them”, stated Director General Mickel Robertson.

In 2023, the First Nations of Quebec and Labrador Economic Development Commission (FNQLEDC) awarded eleven (11) Nikanewin Bursaries of $2,500 in addition to one $5,000 Bursary. These grants were awarded specifically to First Nations people aged 18 and over living in Quebec (inside or outside the communities) who have a business project in mind and want to take action. Today, we present to you one of the recipients of the 2023 edition, Ms. Lily Duchesneau, and her Hutte de médecine étoilée (starry medicine hut) project.
