The FNQLEDC Unveils the Winners of the Nikanewin Bursaries 2021
The First Nations of Quebec and Labrador Economic Development Commission (FNQLEDC) is proud to unveil the names of the ten Nikanewin Bursaries 2021 winners, who are sharing a total of $30,000 in bursaries. The main objective of these bursaries was to encourage as many First Nations people with a business plan as possible to move from the idea stage to the action stage.
The Nikanewin Bursaries 2021 were very successful, as evidenced by the following figures:
- 78 applications were submitted.
- 8 nations and 20 communities were represented among the candidates. 30 applications were submitted by First Nations people living off-reserve.
- 75% of the applications were submitted by women, demonstrating the strength of female entrepreneurship.
To participate in the competition, each candidate had to submit a cover letter and an application, in which they had to explain their individual background, their business project and their understanding of the associated market. All of the candidate’s applications were interesting and relevant with the potential to materialize into business projects and grow. Significant evaluation work therefore had to be done by the members of the selection committee to determine which projects would be awarded one of the ten bursaries.
Here are the winners of the Nikanewin Bursaries 2021:
