AN EVENT FOCUSED ON PROMOTING ENTREPRENEURSHIP AMONG YOUNG INDIGENOUS PEOPLE

The First Nations of Quebec and Labrador Economic Development Commission had the pleasure of welcoming around thirty young Indigenous entrepreneurs from across Quebec on March 12  and 13 as part of its event entitled “Auetiss: Me, an entrepreneur? Why not?”

The event, which was held at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Gatineau, aimed to bring together young Indigenous entrepreneurs to exchange, learn and develop their business networks. It also provided these young people with an opportunity to prepare for the continuation of their entrepreneurial journeys and to benefit from the experiences of entrepreneurs who have been in business for many years.

Participants were welcomed on Tuesday, March 12th by the FNQLEDC team for a welcome address, an opening prayer and an icebreaker workshop.

This was followed by a first panel to officially launch the event. As part of this panel, three young, seasoned entrepreneurs shared their successes and their motivations for starting their respective businesses.

The young Indigenous entrepreneurs were then separated into two groups — start-up entrepreneurs and emerging entrepreneurs — so that they could follow a series of workshops adapted to the respective needs of both groups. The day ended with a networking bingo activity, followed by a cocktail reception that allowed the entrepreneurs to share ideas.

A sharing circle kicked off the day of March 13th. Then, throughout the day, numerous workshops and discussion circles on various themes such as financing and social initiatives among young entrepreneurs were presented. The day and the event came to an end with a moment of sharing and thanks.

The FNQLEDC would like to thank all the young Indigenous entrepreneurs who, thanks to their participation, were able to make this event possible. To view our business portraits, we invite you to visit our blog.
