The social economy: developing the territorial and identity awareness of First Nations youth

We have seen the social economy movement progress in Quebec for more than thirty years, but the model remains vague for some. The social economy is above all a means of providing solutions to the challenges of our communities through entrepreneurial projects. It is also a series of social mobilizations focused on promoting solutions to socio-territorial disparities and inequalities in addition to innovative local development strategies. It is in this sense that the social economy tends to constitute a driving force for the socio-ecological transition.

Towards a Social Economy Summit to build together

Since its beginnings, the social economy has looked to change the ways in which society is organized. During large gatherings, such as the 1996 and 2006 Summits, the ecosystem comes together to reflect on good initiatives and imagine what we want for the future of the movement and the generations to come.

In 2025, Montreal will be welcoming hundreds of social economy players to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the movement at the Social Economy Summit. This festive gathering will be an opportunity to announce new projects, solutions, tools, and levers to facilitate the deployment of collective entrepreneurship in the coming years. Our communities face many issues such as environmental and housing crises, labour shortages and difficulties related to the cultural environment. Collective entrepreneurs are demonstrating creativity, resilience, and collaboration in responding to these challenges with impressive solutions!

Making way for First Nations youth

There are many options for defining yourself as a player in your setting and participating in reflections as well as discussions and decisions. The social economy is a citizen movement: it is important for all groups in society to feel invited and engaged for the creation of a rich social fabric that is representative of Quebec’s many cultures.

Getting involved concretely

The Aile jeunesse of the Chantier de l’économie sociale is one way to be part of the action. The Aile jeunesse, which brings together young people aged 18 to 35 from all backgrounds, provides a platform that allows young people to take part in discussions in the social economy ecosystem.

Getting involved in the Aile jeunesse is an excellent way to defend the interests of young people in the implementation of concrete solutions that have a direct impact on the society that we want to shape for ourselves. Getting involved in the Aile jeunesse also makes it possible to mobilize other young people in terms of the place that the social economy can take in the construction of a more democratic economic model. We will thus be able to build a society on a basis of collaboration, representativeness and possibility. To go farther…

So, if these ideas, issues and courses of action are at the heart of your concerns, do not hesitate to contact the Aile jeunesse team. Several forms of involvement are possible, and we would love to meet you.
