The AFNQL and the Government of Quebec Are Inviting the Quebec Business Community to Make Commitments for Indigenous People

The AFNQL and the Government of Quebec Are Inviting the Quebec Business Community to Make Commitments for Indigenous PeopleAs part of the Grand Economic Circle of Indigenous People and Quebec, which will take place on November 25 and 26, 2021, the Assembly of First Nations Quebec-Labrador, the Government of Quebec and the First Nations of Quebec and Labrador Economic Development Commission (FNQLEDC) are launching a call for commitment.

During the Grand Economic Circle, Indigenous and Quebec elected officials and representatives will be invited to attend two days of conferences and networking that will contribute to creating the winning conditions for a better inclusion of Indigenous people in Quebec’s economy. We are convinced that the mobilization and commitment of Quebec businesses are essential to achieve this objective and that is why a call for commitment was launched on October 19th. In order to help businesses to formulate commitments that will be meaningful and promising, a document presenting the Vision for the Future of Indigenous Peoples has been prepared. We hope that many commitments, initiatives and partnerships will be generated through this call for commitment.

Who can make a commitment?

Any business, organization or non-profit organization can get involved, regardless of size. What is important is that the commitments are relevant, achievable and lead to concrete results for Indigenous people. All the commitments made will be disseminated during the event. After the event, all those that have made commitments will be matched with an Indigenous organization, business or community, depending on the nature of the commitment made, in order to foster its realization.

It is in this context that the AFNQL entrusted the First Nations of Quebec and Labrador Economic Development Commission (FNQLEDC) with the mandate to organize an event that would bring together Indigenous and Quebec business communities and elected officials. As of the earliest discussion, the Government of Quebec expressed its interest in becoming a partner of the event, so that it is now one of the event’s co-organizers.
